The petition of William Walter of Chichester, Sussex, April 1653

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace sitting at the Sessions in Chichester in the Countie of Sussex
The humble Petic[i]on of William Walter of the Cittey of Chichester:
Humbly sheweth
Whereas your Wor[shi]ps were pleased vpon his petic[i]on deliuered at the Sessions holden at Arundle in the Yeare 1648 to grant him as a mained [sic.] souldier a pension of fower nobles p[er] ann[um] during his naturall life your poore petic[i]oner feeling since that time that by reason of the hurt he receiued in the late warres he is likely to loose the whole vse of his arme w[hi]ch will be to the vndoeing of himselfe his wife and three smale children:
His humble request to your Wor[shi]ps is that you would be pleased to take his sad condic[i]on into your serious considerac[i]on and to grant your order for an enlargement of his penc[i]on as your Wor[shi]ps shall thinke meete.
And he his wife and children shalbe bound to pray etc.
Ordered that the penc[i]on abouewritten be increased to foure marks p[er] ann[um].
