The second petition of Simon Davies of Denbigh, Denbighshire, c. 1662 to 1667

<The humble petic[i]on of Simon Davies}>

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll S[i]r John Salusbury Kn[igh]t & Baronet

In most Humble wise yo[u]r poore Peticon[e]r showeth & maketh Knowen vnto yo[u]r Worshippe. That whereas hee hath been in your late fathers tyme pressed as a souldiour to march with him for to serve his late ma[jes]tie Charles the first of famous memorie king of England deceased in the warres in England at the tyme of the late insurrecc[i]on heere who served in you vnder his commaund dureing his liefe tyme as it shall bee proued and manifestlie now it doeth app[er]e vnder the handes of Credible p[er]sons vnder their by theire Certificate, And shortlie after his death hee served his said ma[jes]tie vnder the Commaund of Captain Churlocke & Maior Doulben who weare of yo[u]r fathers Regiment in his liefe tyme, and afterward vnder the com[m]aund of Colonell Wynne, beside many other Captaynes w[hi]ch yo[u]r Peticon[e]r served vnder dureing the Continuance of the said warres, & hazarded his lief in diuerse Conflictes & skirmages in many batles as well in England Scotland & Ireland & espetially in Edgehill where he sustayned many woundes. His Captayne in Scotland was Cap[tain] Heirn, & in Ireland Cap[tain] Fisher, and hath been a troup[er] in Captaine Hanmers tyme. All w[hi]ch tyme yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r served his ma[jes]tie as a true & loyall Subiect neu[er] revolting from his ma[jes]ties service & his faithfull allegeance to the adu[er]se p[ar]tie & sustayned a greate deale of miserie & lost his health in pursueing the said warres and now is weake & vnable to travel for his living to maintayne himself his wief & Children

Now soe it is that your Peticon[e]r is very confident in yo[u]r wor[shi]ppes favour and mercy Hee most submissively prayes for gods Cause your Wor[shi]ppe in respect that hee served your father as aforesaid & for the obedience hee had to venture with him before an other for to bee a meanes to helpe him to be listed vppon records to haue a maymed souldiours pay. And yo[u]r Peticon[e]r shall eu[er] pray as hee is most bound.
