The petition of William Hassall of Hankelow, Cheshire, Epiphany 1663

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace of the County of Westchester
The humble petic[i]on of William Hassell of the parish of St Mary Madgalen in the Suburbes of the Citie of Oxon
Sheweth
[illegible] that yo[u]r petic[i]oner first listed himselfe as a Souldier vnder the comaund of S[i]r Charles Vavester at Hanckelow in the said County for his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed memory & afterwards was a Sergeant in the Company of S[i]r Charles Gerard the Lord Gerard & was blowne vpp with powder at Edghill fight & hath ever since continued constant & faithfull to his Ma[jes]tie in these tymes of Rebellion & vsurpac[i]on & that hee is truely indigent & poore haveing a wife & Fower small children to maineteyne.
The pr[e]misses considered the humble desire of yo[u]r petic[i]oner is that you would be pleased to graunte him an yearely penc[i]on whereby hee may be enabled to mainteyne himselfe his wife & Children & hee shall ever pray &c
Wee whose names are subscribed being the Minister & Churchwardens Overseers of the poore & Inhabitants of the p[ar]ish of St Mary Magdalen doe hereby certifie that wee beleive the petic[i]oner is very poore & indigent
