The petition of Trooper William Wiles, Richard Graves’s Regiment, 31 October 1648

To ye Right Hono[ura]ble ye Com[m]ittee for ye Army.
The humble petic[i]on of William Wiles troop[er].
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath bin in actuall service as Troop[er] in Major Gen[era]ll Skippons Troope com[m]anded by Capt[ain] Edward Lewis in Coll[one]l Graues his Regim[en]t in ye Army of his Ex[cellen]cie ye Lord Fairfax from June 1644 till May 16467. And att ye seige before Oxford, he receaved many dangerous wounds to ye losse of ye vse of one of his Armes, whereby he is become vnable & vnfitt for further service or to follow his calling as by Certificates vnder the said Captaines hand, and Mr Dunnes & Mr Nicksons hands ye Chirurgian to yt Troope appeareth
In considerac[i]on of ye said estate yo[u]r pet[itione]r is in by reason thereof, he most humbly prayeth yo[u]r Hono[u]rs to comiserate him, & to order his accompts to be stated & his small arreares to be paid him, that may pr[e]serue him from Ruine.
And he shall eu[er] pray &c

Att ye Committee of Lords & Com[m]ons for the Army ult[imo] Octob[er] 1648.
Ordered
That ye Comissary Generall of ye Musters or his Deputy doe forthwith certify this Com[m]ittee how the pet[itione]r stands vpon the seu[er]all Musters of the Army & doe affix ye same to this petic[i]on
