The first petition of Oliver Moris of Banhadla, Denbighshire, 16 April 1667

<Denbigh s[ession]s>
To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace of the sayd County pr[e]sent at this q[ua]rter Sessions
The humble petic[i]on of Oliver Moris of Banhadla in the sayd County, labourer
Sheweth vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]ps that yo[u]r petic[i]oner did for foure yeares & vpwards serve his late ma[jes]tie King Charles the firste in the late vnhappie wars, as a Comon souldier vnder the seu[er]all com[m]aunds of liftenant Collonell John Royden & liftenant Col[one]l Edward Tirret in the Regim[en]t of S[i]r Thomas Salusbury & S[i]r Charles Lloyd in w[hi]ch sayd service, yo[u]r sayd petic[i]oner received many great wounds & bruises, vpon seu[er]all p[ar]tes of his body (as to your wor[shi]ps evidently may appeare) & that yo[u]r sayd petic[i]oner (being loath to be burthensome to his Countrey) did since his returne from the sayd wars by his dayly labour & industrie get (though to his great payne) something towards a livelyhood, vntill now of late yo[u]r sayd petic[i]oner is by reason of the sayd old wounds & bruises become very weake & infirme in his body & alltogether dishabled to worke for his pr[es]ent subsistance, wherefore yo[u]r sayd poore p[e]tic[i]oner out of meere indigencie, is now forced to make his Addresses to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps in this behalfe
Therefore yo[u]r sayd poore petic[i]oner humbley prayeth yo[u]r wor[shi]ps to take the pr[e]misses into considerac[i]on & to admitt him to be one of the penc[i]oners of the sayd County and to allow him such q[ua]rterly p[ro]porc[i]on out of the maimed souldiers mise as to yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps in Charity shall seeme convenient And yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c.
