The second petition of Humphrey Briscoe of Newton juxta Chester, City and County of Chester, Epiphany 1661

To the R[igh]t Wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of the Peace sitting in the Quarter Sessions houlden at Northwich for the Countie Pallatine of Chester.
The humble petic[i]on of Humphrey Briscoe a maymed man
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r was borne in Newton in Lancashire, and is by profession a webster, and hath lived there 20 yeares & vpwards in Croton [sic.] in Cheshire, and was a soldier in the late Army vnder the Conduct of S[i]r George Booth in Capt[ain] John Leech of Carden his company for the towne of Newton neere the Citty of Chester, and being on service at Winington bridge was dangerously wounded w[i]th a brace of bulletts in his shoulder, of w[hi]ch greivous wound he hath layne languishing vnder Chirurgeons hand in Chester from the 19th of Aug[us]t 1659 till Michaelmas 1660 to his vtter ruine and impouerishm[en]t being for the future disabled from following his said vocation as formerly.
He therefore humbly imploreth yo[u]r wor[shi]ps most graue and serious considerac[i]on of the premisses, and that yow wil be charitably pleased to graunt yo[u]r pet[itione]r a yearely penc[i]on towards his future reliefe & subsistence or otherwise to releeue yo[u]r pet[itione]r as to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps wisedome shall seeme meet, And yo[u]r pet[itione]r &c
We whose names are herevnto subscribed humbly certifie yo[u]r wor[shi]ps yt the Contents of his petic[i]on is trueth, & referre him to yo[u]r charitable considerac[i]ons
