The petition on behalf of James Marsh of Aspull, Lancashire, Easter 1677

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace and Quor[um] at Manchester Sessions

The humble petic[i]on of James, Tho[mas] and Ann Marsh sonnes and daughters of James Marsh of Aspull

Sheweth

that our gracious Ma[jes]tie that now is was pleased w[i]th consent of his Parliam[en]t to grant a yearly penc[i]on vnto all such [illegible] poore lame and indigent soldiers who served his Ma[jes]tie and his Royall father of blessed memory in the late vp vnhappie wars and to the widowes and Orphants of such [illegible] soldiers who were slaine and died in the said wars May it please yo[u]r wor[shi]ps soe it is that yo[u]r petic[i]oners father was a soldier in the said wars and beeing poore and indigent yo[u]r wor[shi]ps who were instructed to allow the penc[i]on were pleased to allowe vnto him a penc[i]on of xx s. a yeare w[hi]ch hath beene payed till three yeares last past at w[hi]ch tyme yo[u]r petic[i]oners father beeing indebted to one John Leathwate was forced to assigne over the said penc[i]on to the said Leathwate for [illegible] seaven yeares and yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs father beeing further indebted was forced to ly in private & still doth and yo[u]r petic[i]oners are verie poore and not able to releeve there father & the said Leathwate hath receaved his moneyes if he would come to account and further yo[u]r petic[i]oner conceaves the said penc[i]on ought not to bee assigned away for from yo[u]r petic[i]oners the treasurer hath it still remaineing in his hands and will not part w[i]th it till order of this Court

Wherefore yo[u]r petic[i]oners humbly begs the order of this Court to the treasurer to pay vnto yo[u]r petic[i]oners the said penc[i]on for & towards the manteynance of there father who lyes in private & themselves manteynance of themseales and yo[u]r petic[i]oners will ever pray &c

the treasurer to pay the arrears & to continue the paym[en]t vnto hime or his children & none other
