The petition of William Samforde of Colyton, Devon, Epiphany 1648

To his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace of the Countie of Devon. The humble petition of W[illia]m Samforde of Colyton in the said Countie.

Humbly sheweth that yo[u]r poore petitioner in the tyme of the late troubles beinge imployed as a souldier in the service of the State hee therein received diverse hurtes in his body by w[hi]ch hee is disabled to relieve himselfe and famely by his labour as in former tymes. In consideration whereof he humbly prayeth that yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to assigne [sic.] him some yerely penc[i]on towards his subsistence and reliefe of his poore wiefe and children and yo[u]r peticioner shall as hee is in duty bounde to pray &c
