The petition of William Greenehill of Eccleston, Cheshire, Epiphany 1669

To the Hono[ura]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace within the County of Chester:
The humble petic[i]on of William Greenehill
<Humbly sheweth>
That yo[u]r petitioner in the tyme of the late Rebellion in this Kingdome was a souldier att seu[er]all seidges and battles for our late dread Sou[er]aigne Lord Kinge Charles the First of euer blessed memory and thereby was very dangerously wounded and did long Languish vnd[e]r the same. And was afterwards during the whole seidge att Chester a souldier vnd[e]r Collonell Disney in the Castle of Chester and there continued till the surrend[e]r of the said Citty and Castle, and by meanes thereof yo[u]r pet[itione]r is become and reduced to extreame poverty and want as may Appeare by the certificate herevnto annexed
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to take the pr[em]misses into yo[u]r Consid[e]rac[i]ons and be pleased that your pet[itione]r by reason of his age and poverty may receaue his Ma[jes]ties gratious allowance of a penc[i]oner in this County of Chester for & towards his present supply and maynteynance And yo[u]r petition[e]r will euer pray for yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps health and happinesse
