The petition of William Blewett of Plymtree, Devon, 1671

To the Right Wors[hi]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace at the Generall quarter Sessions of the peace held at the Castle of Exon for the County of Deuon

The humble petic[i]on of William Blewett of the parish of Plymtree in the said County of Devon gent[leman]. Humbly sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]oner haueinge seru’d his late Ma[jes]tie of euer blessed memory vnd[e]r the Com[m]and of Collonell John Ackland K[nigh]t deceased as a Captaine of Foote and continued a faithfull subiect duringe all the tyme of the late vnhappy warr, and euer since. In w[hi]ch said service yo[u]r poor petic[i]oner rec[eive]d seu[e]rall wounds and a long imprissonm[en]t by reason of w[hi]ch hee is very much disabled of gettinge a liuelihood, but yo[u]r poor petic[i]oner and his family haue euer since subsisted vpon some small estate, w[hi]ch hee enioyed, determinable vpon the liues of others who are lately dead, and now yo[u]r petic[i]oner is not only voide of a house to liue in but alsoe of a substance whereby to releiue himselfe and family And yo[u]r poor petic[i]on[e]r was and still is loath to trouble yo[u]r wors[hi]pps but that necessitye driues him to it

And thereupon yo[u]r poor petic[i]on[e]r craues and desires that yo[u]r wors[hi]pps will bee pleased to take his condic[i]on into yo[u]r serious consid[e]racon and graunt him such yearely penc[i]on as yo[u]r wors[hi]pps shall thinke fitt for a p[er]son of his condic[i]on And yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall as in duty bound euer pray for yo[u]r wors[hi]pps

Wee the Inhabitants of the p[ar]ishe of Plymptree doe humbly c[er]tiffie the contents of this petittion to bee true
