The petition of William Adderton of St Botolph Without Aldgate, Middlesex, 8 September 1662

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of Peace for the County of Midd[lese]x Com[missione]rs appointed for the releife of the truely loyall & Indigent Marriners Souldiers &c.
The humble petic[i]on of William Adderton of the parish of St Buttolph Allgate in the County of Midd[lese]x
Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r did come as a volentier to the service of his late Ma[jes]tie in the begining of the late vnhappy warres vnder the Comand of Earle Rivers & was at Edgehill fight & continued in the said service loyall vnder the comand of S[i]r John Boys & hath received severall shotts w[hi]ch are to be seene vpon him As by Certificate may appeare;
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r for his loyalty suffered much hee being plundered by the late vsurped Parliam[en]t of all his whole substance & goods to the vtter ruine & vndoinge of himselfe his wife & children; yo[u]r pet[itione]r haveinge never as yet received any reward for his soe great sufferings
Yo[u]r pet[itione]r therefore most humbly prayes yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to be pleased to looke vpon his sad & deplorable Condic[i]on & to signe & allowe of this annexed Certificate that thereby hee may be referred to the Com[missione]rs for the County of Chester where hee tooke vpp armes that soe hee some order may be taken for his releife according to Act of Parliam[en]t in that behalfe made & provided
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r (as in duty bound [sic.] shall ever pray &c
Wee whose names are herevnto subscribed Inhabitants in the said parish of St Buttolphs Allgate doe certify that the pet[itione]r is a very poore man & hath lived in the said p[ar]ish for the space of Tenn yeares & hath ever beine a loyall subject & therefore ought to be releived according to Act of Parliam[en]t given vnder o[u]r hands this 8th of September 1662.
