The petition of Thomas Whalley of Lathom, William Jackson of Ormskirk, and Richard Ambros of Ormskirk, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1666

To ye right wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace and Quor[um] at w[i]thin the County aforesaid at ye Quarter Sessions at Wigan

The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Whalley of Latham William Jackson of Ormischurch & Richard [illegible] Ambros of Ormischurch w[i]thin the said County.

Humbly sheweth

Vnto yo[u]r good Wor[shi]ps yt ye said p[er]sons haue beene imployed as Souldiers in ye late warrs, and therein haue demaned themselves in all loyallty and true allegance towards his late Majesty, and alsoe in ye service of his most gracious Ma[jes]tie yt now is, in which service ye haue euer proued fathfull and true, and being thereby absent from their callings and aboad were impouerished and likewise disabled & decayed in body and not able to subsist or procure any competent releefe by their owne labours, for w[hi]ch the said p[er]sons haue paid and allowed them ye yearely sume of six shillings eight pence, which although it bee a gracious guift of his Ma[jes]tie, yet the said p[er]sons being very poore the alloweance is but small towards ye dischargeing of their necesities, And yo[u]r petic[i]oners haue seu[er]all neighbors who haue done no more service then they yet haue greater allowances, vizt xx s. p[er] annu[m] and yo[u]r petic[i]oners are both as aged and vnable to helpe themselves as they

Wherefore ye pr[e]misses considered yo[u]r poore petic[i]oners humbly prays yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps not onely to continue ye s[ai]d gracious allowances but alsoe yt ye same may bee made vp to such a competency for their reliefe according to their merrits & necesities & as you in yo[u]r discresions shall thinke fitt

And yo[u]r said petic[i]oners as in duty bound shall ever pray &c

And yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]oners does further Informe yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps that One Franchis Massom of Alker does receiue both pay both for a Com[m]ission officer & for a maimed souldier, Edw[ard] Maudsley of Lathom receiues 20 s. the yeare and neuer did service nor neuer did any comand, There is likewise Raph Whalley of Vpholland w[hi]ch received but is lately deceased, Jospeh Rigby of Newbrooke hath 20 s. a yeare & neuer was Listed souldier
