The petition of Thomas Marshall of Thorverton, Devon, 11 July 1682

To the worshipfull John Blewet Esq[uire] on of his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of the Pease for this Covnteii of Devon and to the reste of his Ma[jes]t[y’s] Justices at the quarter Sessions of the pearse held at the Castell of Exon the homble petission of Thomas Marshall of Tharverton in the Countie A fore said
Hombelly Sheweth
That your worsships pore petissioner in the Late wares of King Charles the First did serve his Ma[jes]t[y] as A privat Soldier vnder Coronell Blewett of Holtom Rogus and Commanded vnder Captin drake now leving in Topham and being vnder his command in the sedge of Exteter your pore petissioner thare Lost one of his Eies and indangered the lost of the other: Whare vpon your petissoner was Ordered by the worshipfull Bench to receve his Ma[jes]t[y’s] pension of fower pounds or theere a boute and did receve the same for som small time but it was detayned from hem with out Just Case and your petissioner doth beleve that it doth yearlie remayne in the hands of the Tresurer of this Covnteij your petissioner being Adged fower score yeares and hath from the parrish but 4 s. 6 d. the moneth for his Relefe and mayntayance and to pay howse rente out of the same so that your petissioner is Licke to Starve and peurish vnlese releved by your worships order according to his Ma[jes]t[y’s] Acte of Parllemente for the relefe of Maymed Solddiers
May it please youre worships the premises to conseder and to releve the destrese and povertie of your petission[e]r Eather by commanding his Magisties gracious pension formerly granted to hem to be continewed vnto hem or to geve Order for farder maynetaynance from the Parrishe Else your petissioner moste Starve and pearish and in this your petissioner Shall and will Eaver pray &c
