The petition of Thomas Jones of Cheadle, Cheshire, 29 October 1655

To the honorable Bench of Justices of Peace and Quoru[m] Sittinge att Chester Knotsford att the Generall Sessions howlden For the said Countie of Chester October the 279th 1655
The humble pettic[i]on of Thomas Jones of Cheadle hulme within the p[ar]ish of Cheadle & Countie of Chester:
Humbly Shewth
That your hono[u]rs poore pettic[i]oner: Thomas Jones afforesaid Being a souldior in the p[ar]liam[en]ts seruice vnder: the Command of the Right worshipffull major Buckley was att the Fight Att Hanmore in Flint shire a Few dayes Before midsomer 1643 shott and otherwise wownded By meanes whereof your pettic[i]oner is nott able to worke nor hath nothinge to subsiste vppon Butt a Cottage of xx d. a yeare Rent and haueinge a wiffe & Three Small Children which are in great want and pou[er]ty in Regard your poore pettic[i]oner is nott able to worke to helpe himself and them withall in Regard hee is so lame as afforesaide And likewise in Regard his wiffe hath the disease Called the Kinges euill & is in sad Condic[i]on Therefore your poore pettic[i]oner: desires your hono[u]rs to Comiserate & pittie his sad & deplorable Condic[i]on Both in Respecte of himselffe & his wiffe & Three small Children as afforesaide And whereas your poore pettiic[i]oner hath had for some Few yeares past Twentie shillinges a yeare paid quarterly by fiue shillinges a quarter: & hath had much trouble & still hath with seekeinge to the Sessions For itt & so is Forced to spend the most of it with Travellinge to the sessions about itt your pettic[i]oner humbly Craues That yow will graunt him some Thing more For his yearely penc[i]on Consideringe his great necessity or els hee and his wiffe and Children wil bee forced either to perish or els to Begge their Bread which wil bee sad & grieuous vnto them & their Frends & the Rather in Regard Both hee & his wiffe Bee of honest parentage & honest Conu[er]sac[i]on
May itt therefore please your honors so much to pittie & Commiserate your pettic[i]oners sad & deplorable Condic[i]on And to Allowe him what more money yearely then the Foresaid xx s. your honors shall thinke meette & Conuenient Consideringe his Lamenes & great Charges and great want & your poore pettic[i]oner: shall euer pray &c
