The petition of Thomas Jones of Cheadle, Cheshire, Easter 1656

To the honorable Bench of Justices of Peace and Quoru[m] Sitting att Middlewitch att the Generall Sessions houldenf the Countie off Chester

The humble pettic[i]on of Thomas Jones of Cheadle Hulme in the p[ar]ish of Cheadle & County of Chester

Humbly Shewth

That your hono[u]rs poore pettic[i]oner: Thomas Jones afforesaide Being a souldior in the p[ar]liam[en]ts seruice vnder: the Command of the Right worshipffull major Buckley was att the fight att Hanmore in Flint shire a few daies Before midsomer 1643 shott and otherwise wownded By meanes whereof your pettic[i]oner is nott able to worke nor hath nothinge to subsist vppon butt a Cottage of Twelue pence a yeare Rent and haueinge a wiffe & Three Small Children which are in great want and pouerty in Regard your poore pettic[i]oner is nott able to worke to helpe himself and them withall in Regard hee is so Lame as afforesaide & his wiffe a Sickly weake woman & is not able to worke shee haueinge the disease Comonly Called the Kinges euill Therefore your poore pettic[i]oner: desires your hono[u]rs to Comiserate & pittie his sad & deplorable Condic[i]on Both in Respecte of himselffe & his wiffe & Three small Children as afforesaide & whereas your poore pettic[i]oner had for some few yeares last past Twentie shillinges a yeare paid and hath had much trowble w[i]th seekeinge to the Sessions for itt & so is forced to spend the most of itt with Travellinge about itt your pettic[i]oner humbly Craues That your hono[u]rs will graunt him some Thing more for his yearely penc[i]on Considering his great necessity or els hee and his wiffe and Children wil bee forced either to p[er]ish or els to Beg their Bread which wil bee sad & grieuous vnto them & their Frends & the Rather in Regard hee is of honest parentage & himselffe of honest Conu[er]sac[i]on

May itt therefore please your honors so much to pittie & Commiserate your pettic[i]oners sad & deplorable poore Condic[i]on and to Allowe him what more money yearely then the Foresaid Twentie shillinges. your honors shall thinke meett & Conuenient Consideringe his lamenes & great Charge and great want & your poore pettic[i]oner: shall euer pray &c
