The petition of Thomas Hall of Congleton, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1651

The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Hall of Congleton a meymed souldier
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] att the seige of Namptw[i]ch lost his Left hand in service for the parl[ia]m[en]t & Considerac[i]on thereof being formerly had by this hono[ura]ble Bench yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r was admitted a penc[i]on[e]r & by order dated xixth of October xxiiiio Car[oli] allowed xl s. p[er] Ann[um] towards his meynten[a]nce.
But soe it is, that yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs charge doth greatly encrease & hee vtterly disinabled to releive them that were it not for the Charity of his brother, hee were likely to bee brought to great want & misery
May it therefore please this hon[oura]ble Bench the premises Considered to gr[an]t vnto yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r such an Augmentac[i]on to his s[ai]d penc[i]on, as in yo[u]r wisdomes shall seeme necessary for releife of himselfe & family
& yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r will ever &c
