The petition of Thomas Hall of Congleton, Cheshire, 15 April 1651

To the Right ho[noura]ble the deputie Leiften[a]nts & other the keep[er]s of the liberties of the peace of the Common wealth of England theire Assistants Assembled at Middlewich for the houldinge of the quarter sessions theire for this Countie the 15th Aprill 1651.

The Peti[ti]on of Thomas Hall of Congleton within this Countie maymed souldier in the states service.

Humbly sheweth to youre honors that youre pet[iti]oner haueing lost his left hand at the seige time in Namptwich & haueinge ever since been a firme man for the p[ar]liament was heretofore a pet[iti]oner to youre honnors for Releefe & mentenance wherevpon it pleased youre honors to looke vpon him in mercie & to Admitt of him as a pention[e]r And Allowed him the yearely pention of Fortie shillinges And soe it is that your pet[iti]oner hath for this six or seaven yeares Last past been mentayned with meate, drinke & Clothes by one W[illia]m Hall whoe is a brother of youre peti[ti]oners & in Regard whereof hath very much Impaired his estate & is not for future time p[ro]bable to Releefe & succor him as he hath done formerly And alsoe for that youre petitioners Charge is dayly Increaseinge & in shortt time very likely to haue a greate familie whoe is very laborious & Industrious in a way by tradeinge in boyinge [sic.] & sellinge of smale wares whoe vpon his Creditt gott a stocke to sett vp with the helpe of his brother aforesaid since which time had his shopp broken & goods taken from him in the night to the valewe of Tenn Pownds. Insoemuch youre pet[it]ioner is growen into debtt & danger & hee his good wife & Child & posterritie Likely to vndergoe povertie & much misserie vnlesse your hon[ou]rs favors bee shewed to youre petitio[ne]r herewith.

May it therefore please youre honnors to [illegible] order your petitioner an Addition vnto his former pention for as youre hon[n]ors shall in youre wisdomes seeme fitt and Convenient And yo[u]r pet[it]ioner as in dutie bound shall pray &c.
