The petition of Thomas Edwards of Marlborough, Wiltshire, 1 October 1661

To the right Hon[ou]r[a]ble & Hon[ou]r[a]ble & the rest of the wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of the Peace for the Countie of Wilts[hire] sitting at Marlebrough this pr[e]sent Session 1o of October 1661.
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Edwards of Marlebrough Taylor
Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r serued his late Ma[jes]tie Charles the first of eu[er] blessed memory vnder ye com[m]aund of ye right hon[ou]r[a]ble ye Marquesse of Ormond in ye Earle of Roscom[m]ons troope in Ireland vntill the first cessatio[n] of armes & from thence was transported amongst diuers others by order into ye North parts of England And serued vnder the comaund of the right hon[ou]r[a]ble the Marquesse of Newcastle in the regiment of Col[one]l Kirkbride as by the Certificate herevnto annexed appeareth in w[hi]ch seruice yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r continued vntill after the Battell at Marston Moore where yo[u]r pet[itione]r was most desperately wounded to the great hazard of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs life, by many wounds; w[hi]ch hath occasioned much imperfection in yo[u]r pet[itione]rs body espetially in yo[u]r pet[itione]rs left arme w[hi]ch hath soe disabled yo[u]r poore pet[itone]r that for want of the vse thereof in his declyning age is like to perish; yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r hath layen vnder a cloud many yeares and durst not pr[e]sume to apply himselfe to this place or any other for releife But being assuered the[re] lodgeth in yo[u]r hono[u]rs & wor[shi]ps breasts such readynes to releeue the afflicted And willingnes to giue credence to this annexed Certificate and letter of S[i]r Francis Mackworth Maior generall to the Marquesse of Newcastle
Doe therefore most humbly implore yo[u]r hon[ou]r and the rest of this hon[ou]r[e]d Bench yt you wil be pleased to conferre an Annuall Pencheon forth of this County (being the place of the natiuity of yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r) on yo[u]r pet[itione]r that yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r his wife and family p[er]ish not
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r as in duty bound shall euer pray &c
