The petition of Trooper Symon Terrall, Nathaniel Rich’s Regiment, 1648

To ye right Hono[ura]ble ye Com[mi]ttee for the Army.

The humble petic[i]on of Symon Terrall a frenchman.

Sheweing

To yo[u]r Hono[u]rs that yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath faithfully serued ye state first as priuate soldier in Capt[ain] Thomas Iretons Troope in Col[one]l Rich his Regim[en]t from the 12th of Aprill 1644 to the 3rd of January 1648 And att ye Fight at Maydston in Kent he rec[eive]d a shott in his right eye by w[hi]ch he hath lost it the other being soe much pr[e]iudiced thereby, as yo[u]r pet[itione]r is in danger of looseing the sight of that too besides diuers other dangerous wounds by w[hi]ch he is made vncapeable of seruing longer in the warrs as by Certificate appeareth, vnder the hand of ye s[ai]d Capt[ain].

In considerac[i]on of w[hi]ch & that yo[u]r pet[itione]r being a Stranger of another nation & haueing some arreares due to him for his service being desirous for the reasons aboue expressed to returne into his owne Country most humbly beseecheth yo[u]r Hono[u]rs to take his condition into yo[u]r serious considerac[i]on, & to giue order for the stateing of his accompts, & payment thereof

And he shall pray &c.
