The petition of Susanna Gilloway and Jane Watts, both of Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire, Easter 1668

To ye right Wo[rshi]ppfull the Justices of Peace for ye Countye afores[ai]d
The Humble Petic[i]on of Susanna Gilloway Relict of Thomas Gilloway & Jane Watts Relict of John Watts both of Yardley Hastings in this County.
Humbly Sheweth.
That yo[u]r Peticon[e]rs husbands both serued his Late Ma[jes]tie of blessed Memory in ye late Warrs vnder ye Com[m]and of ye Right hono[ura]ble James Earle of North[amp]ton; & their husbands both dead. & they left poore widdows and growne into a very poor Loe Condic[i]on. vnable for to doe anythinge Considerable towards ye Support of themselues & poore Children w[i]thout some releife from ye Charity of others. And whereas yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps was formerly pleased for to grant yo[u]r Petic[i]oners Penc[i]ons (vizt yo[u]r Petic[i]oner Gilloway one of 3 lbs p[er] ann[u]m & Watts 40 s. p[er] ann[u]m) and whereas as now yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps hath bin pleased for to call in their [illegible] Orders by w[hi]ch they receiued noe support as they are not yet satisfyed but shew there remaines an arreare vpon [illegible] as by ye s[ai]d Ord[e]rs may appeare,
Therefore yo[u]r humble Petic[i]on[e]rs request to this hono[ura]ble Court is that yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps would be pleased for to Consider of their deplorable Condic[i]ons and grant vnto them yo[u]r Petic[i]oners ye s[ai]d arreares for their pr[e]sent support and allow them such Penc[i]on or releife other wayes for their future liuelyhood as to yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps widsomes shall seeme most meet that soe yo[u]r poore Petic[i]oners be not exposed to a Perishing Condic[i]on
And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]rs shall ever pray &c.
