The humble peticion of Richard Wright of Rothsterne
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ner] was a listed sould[i]er vnder the Commaund of Col[one]l Henry Slater for the service of his late Ma[jes]tie, that hee was vppon service w[i]th his said Col[one]l at Marsden Moore Ormskirke & severall other places, that in the said service hee receiued much Loss and suffered greate hardshipp; That yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r Continued Faithfull and Loyall and never Revolted from the said service from the begininge, as appeares by a Certificate vnder the hand & seas seale of his said Col[one]l; That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath foure smale Childeren and noe meanes to Maintaine himselfe & them w[i]th but what hee getts by his owne Labour and Industerie, That by reason of his greate losses hee sustained in the sayd service haueing little or noe p{ay}e & beinge much in Arreares; and his Charge greate hee is n{ow} in want of necessaries & growen in Povertie
Yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r therefore humbly praies yo[u]r hono[u]rs will bee pleased to Comisserate his poore and weake Condicion and graunt him an Order from this hono[ura]ble Bench to the Treasuror for some yearely Alloweance and pencion to bee payde him for & towards the Mainetenance of himselfe & Childeren or what other waies or meanes yo[u]r Hono[u]rs shall think fitt & hee will ever pary [sic] &c
