The petition of Richard Roberts of Denbigh, Denbighshire, 28 April 1663

To the honourable Justices of the peace for and w[i]thin the County of Denbigh
The humble petic[i]on of Richard Roberts of the Towne & County of Denbigh Coc. Drume Maior vnder Collonell Noris.
Humbly sheweth. That yo[u]r peticon[e]r for many yeares togeither liued & inhabited in [illegible] the said Towne in good esteem & reputac[i]on, & by his hard industry, & sweat of his browes, hath mayntayned his wife & children w[i]thout being trowblesome to any. And w[i]thall by reason of his affection, & good service from tyme to tyme to his late Ma[jes]tie vnder seuerall Com[m]aunds (to ye vttermost of his ability) suffred much losse to his estate during the late distracted tymes. And in yt service (Inter Alia) was wounded & shott in the left souldier ab[ou]t 18 yeares agoe vnder ye comand of the Fores[ai]d Collonell At Stocken Heath in Cheshire. Besides other bruises, whearof he for three monethes lay langwishing at Chirurgery & is not as yet perfectly cured. But somew[ha]t vncapable to follow his Trade, wherby to releeue his poore wife & children.
The pr[e]misses duly considered The petitioner humbly craueth That yo[u]r wor[shi]ppes wil be {illegible} to invyst & record him as one of his ma[jes]ties maymed soldiers & to allowe him such penc[i]on quarterly as appeareth most requisett. And yo[u]r {petitioner} will ever pray &c.
