The petition of Philip Luckham of Thurlestone, Devon, 9 July 1686

The humble Petition of Philip Luckham of ye Parish of Thurlston in ye County of Devon.
<Humbly Sheweth.>
That yo[u]r Petition[e]r was alwaies a Loyall Subject & faithfull Soldier as will appear by ye Certifcate vnder written; But now being disabled (by Aches & pains in his Limbs occasion[e]d by colds, watchings & hard travel) not only for ye King’s Service, but to follow his honest Calling; humbly praies ye Hon[oura]ble Bench to take his case into Considerac[i]on, & to allow him such Pension as y[ou]r wisedom shall think fit, & yo[u]r Petitioner shall as in duty bound alwaies pray &c:
Wee whose names are vnder written doe Certify vpon our knowlege or credible informac[i]on yt ye petition[e]r Philip Luckham was alwaies a faithfull Loyall Subject & serv[e]d King Charles ye first of blessed memory fro[m] ye beginning to ye End of ye late vnhappy wars, as Corporall in ye Company & Regim[en]t of S[i]r Edmund Fortescue. And in Monmouth late Invasion & Rebellion (notwithstanding his age being sixty & six years old) went under Captain Dyer with a {illegible} & willing mind, to Serve ye King as Corporall; And we doe farther Certify yt by hard Service he is becom vnable to Serve ye King or follow his honest Calling Witness our hands ye 9th of July 1686.
