The petition of Mary Burden of Corsham, Wiltshire, 3 October 1654

To the right wo[rship]full the Justices of the Peace of the County of Wiltes[hire]
The humble Petic[i]on of Mary Burden of Corsham in this County widdowe.
Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]rs late husband tooke vp [illegible] Armes for the Parliam[en]t in this County & about five yeres since went w[i]th my Lord Protector Gen[er]all into Ireland in w[hi]ch service hee received diu[er]s hurts & bruises by meanes whereof he dyed & left yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r in a very sad Condic[i]on vpon which yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r redressed herselfe to my Lord Gen[er]all whoe recomended yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]rs case to this [illegible] ho[noura]ble Co[u]rt & att Marlebrough Sessions last yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r was allowed such further p[re]sent relieffe the some of v li. a Competent some of mony, for w[hi]ch yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r retornes yo[u]r wo[rshi]ps hearty thankes for the same, but nowe may yt please yo[u]r wo[rshi]ps yo[u]r pet[iti]o[ne]r is lately fallen la{m}e & trubled w[i]th [?much] sicknes & haue not anythinge to relieve my selfe,
Wherefore yo[u]r poore doe Pet[iti]o[ne]r doe humbly desire yo[u]r wo[rshi]ps to graunt yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r an yerely penc[i]on accordinge to the then Lord gen[er]alls letter & the late ordin[an]ces of p[ar]liam[en]t in that behalfe made.
The Court doe allowe the petic[i]oner 5 li. to be paid by the Tresurer of the north p[ar]te and doe desire Mr: Sadler to cause the Tresurer to pay it & the petic[i]oner is to expect noe more
