The petition of Martha Deacon, residence unknown, 7 December 1647

To the hon[oura]ble Com[mitt]te for the Army

The humble petic[i]on of Martha Deacon widow & Adm[inistrat]r[i]x of [illegible] L[ieutenan]t John Deacon.

Sheweth

That yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs husband was Lieutennant to Capt[ain] Ingouldsby’s Company, in Coll[onel] Ingouldsbys Regiment, at the first new modelling of the Army vnder the Comand of his Ex[cellen]cy, S[i]r Tho[mas] Fairfax; & continued in that capacity, vntill the storming of Tiuerton Castle in Deuonshire, where he receiued a wound in seruice against the Enemy of w[hi]ch he died.

Now forasmuch as yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r was the wife of the s[ai]d John Deacon, &, by the losse of him is in distresse & want.

Yo[u]r Pet[itione]r therefore humbly prayes, this hon[oura]ble Com[mit]te would consider her sadd Condic[i]on, & order vnto her the present paym[en]t of such arrears as were due to her deceased husband, as Lieut[enant] to Capt[ain] Ingouldsby afores[ai]d, for her present reliefe & maintenance.

And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r shall &c.

viith of Dec[ember] 1647.

Vpon Certificate produced That ye Petic[i]on[e]rs husband died att Tiverton, ye Com[mi]ttee will afterwards Consider hereof.
