These are to Certify those whom it may concerne that John Deacon was in actuall seruice for ye Parliam[en]t in ye R[igh]t Hon[oura]ble ye late Earle of Essex his his [sic.] Army as Ensigne of a foot Company, vnder the Com[m]and of Capt[ain] Ralph Nicholas in ye Regim[en]t of Col[one]l John Hampden, and after, vnder Col[one]l Laughton, & Capt[ain] Hen[ry] Ingoldsby in ye Regiment of Col[one]l Thomas Tyrrall as Ensigne of the said Company from the 24 of Feb[ruary] 1642. And lastly as Lieuten[a]nt of the said foote Company in the said Earle of Essex his Army, and in his Excellencies S[i]r Thomas Fairfax his Army vnder the Comand of the said Capt[ain] Henry Ingoldsby in the Regiment of Col[one]l Richard Ingoldsby from about the begining of Octob[e]r 1644 vntill the tyme, that hee was wounded in ye seruice at Tyverton, whereof hee dyed being about the 20 of Octob[er] 1645, Giuen vnder my hande & seale &c.
