The petition of John Maudit of Bradninch, Devon, 1686

To the Honn[oura]ble his Ma[je]ties Justices of the Peace of the County of Devon now Assembled at the Castle of Exon.
The petic[i]on of John Maudit of Bradninch.
Most humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r Petic[i]oner served his Ma[jes]tie King Charles the 1st of ever blessed memory & received in the s[ai]d service severall wounds whereby he has bin disabled to get his Livelyhood.
That for a reward of that his service he formerly recieved from this Hon[oura]ble Co[u]rt a Pension of 4 li. p[er] ann[um] which upon the increase of the maimed soldiers in the time of the Dutch warre was reduced to forty shillings p[er] ann[um].
That by reason of his age his disability encreases.
Wherefore he humbly praies that he may be restored to his former Pension of 4 li. p[er] ann[um].
And he shall (as in duty bound) shall ever pray &c
