The petition of John Head of Easton, Wiltshire, 23 April 1650

To the hono[ura]ble & Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justic[e]s of peace at the gen[er]all Quarter Sessions holden at the Devizes Aprill 23th 1650.
The humble Petic[i]on of John Head of Easton w[i]thin this Countie of Wiltes[hire], late souldier vnder the Com[m]aund of the Earle of Essex.
Humbly sheweth That whereas at the gen[er]all Quarter Sessions of the peace holden at Saru[m] January ixth 1648 the Court was then willing to allow yo[u]r pet[itione]r a penc[i]on of 4 li. p[er] ann[um] And the Wor[shipfu]ll Mr Swanton (then finding that money was somewhat scant in the Treasurers hands) brought downe yo[u]r pet[itione]rs penc[i]on to be but 40 s. p[er] ann[um], And p[ro]mised that at Michaelmas Sessions then next following, yo[u]r pet[itione]rs penc[i]on should be raysed to 4 li. p[er] ann[um] for the better sustentac[i]on of yo[u]r pet[itione]r his wife & 3 children.
Yo[u]r pet[itione]r humbly prayeth yo[u]r hono[u]rs & Wor[shi]pps to be pleased to Order, that his s[aid] Penc[i]on may accordingly be raysed to 4 li p[er] ann[um]. And he w[i]th his wife & children shall ever pray &c.
