The petition of John Harris, Robert Overton’s Regiment, 8 November 1648

<John Harris petic[i]on a maymed soldier>
To the Right hono[ura]ble the Com[m]ittee of Lords and Com[m]ons for the Armie.
The humble petic[i]on of John Harris A poore Maymed Souldier in the Sauoy Hospitall.
Sheweth:
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath faithfullie serued the parliam[en]t for seu[er]all years in the Regim[en]t sometime belonginge to Col[one]l Lloyd & Col[one]l Harbert And now belonginge to Col[one]l Ouerton As a priuate Souldier to Captaine John Spooner: in the Armye of his Excellencie Thomas Lord Fairefax As by the annexed Certificate may appeare.
That whereas yo[u]r said petic[i]on[e]r hath receued A dangerous shott in his left legg in the aforesaid seruice whereby hee is not onely uncapeable to indeavo[u]r his future liuelihood but is allsoe att present in a sadd & deploreable Condic[i]on for wante of A competent subsistance And haueinge much in Arreares
Your poore petic[i]on[e]r humblyest imploreth yo[u]r hono[u]rs Order for the stateing his Accounts accordinge to Musters And vppon the stateing thereof to Order him payment of his Arrears, as shal bee therevppon found due towards the better inablinge yo[u]r petic[i]oner to beare his sadd Condic[i]on without w[hi]ch hee is likelie to p[er]ishe.
And hee shall euer pray &c.

This Souldier John Harris is vnder Ceur in the Sauoy hospitall For the woundes he Receued in the Serues of the parlament wherby he is disabled From his Calling being a maymed man

<That ye Com[mi]ssary Generall of ye Musters or his Deputy doe forthw[i]th certify this Com[mi]ttee how ye pet[itione]r stands vpon ye seu[er]all Musters of ye Army. And doe affix the same to this petic[i]on.>
