The petition of John Dickman of Corsham, Wiltshire, 30 September 1662

To the Right Honourable the Justices of the Quarter sessions held at Marlebourogh within and for this County of Wiltes[hire] September the 30th 1662
The humble Petition of John Dickman of the p[ar]ish of Corsham in the County of Wiltes[hire] husbandm[an]
Sheweth that whereas yo[u]r peti[i]o[ne]r being heretofore a privet Trooper and alwayes very reall for and on the behalfe of his late Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of ever blessed Memorie (against his then enemies) vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine Francis Hillier belonging to the Lord Hoptons owne Redgiement above two yeares: And it was his vnhappie fortune to be taken by the enemie in the West at which tyme they tooke his horse and Armes: And Streptd him of his money Clothes and all other things which he had and Carried him Prison[e]r to Lampport [sic.] and there keept him soe long in hardshipe that he was almost Staved [sic.]: By meanes whereof yo[u]r petitioner Continueth yet very poore and not able in any case to Mayntaine himselfe and his familie he haveing noe estate at all but his owne Labour to subsist by
The humble desire therefore of yo[u]r petitio[ne]r is that he may have summe yearely Stipend or Pention allowed him for the reliefe of him and his poore familie: According to And as it shall seeme fitting to yo[u]r grave Judgements And yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r shall ever pray for yo[u]r honours healthes and happinesse.
