The petition of John Allsopp, Wiltshire, undated

To the right wo[rshipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace for the Countie of Wilts[hire], assembled in Sessions for the same Countie.
The humble petic[i]on of John Allsopp gent[leman]
<Your> Petic[i]on[er] humbly sheweth that he served the Parliam[en]t in theire late warrs divers yeares; that about Dec[ember] 1646 he was commanded out on a partie att Saru[m] (beinge then vnder the Com[man]d of Colonell Ludlowe; was taken by the Enemie, wounded in many p[ar]ts of his body, his eyes cutt out, left vnder the horses feete for deade, yett by the lords greate Mercie wonderfully pr[e]served to lyfe, though not to his sight att all, not to his limmes alltogether.
And most humbly prayeth his Condic[i]on may bee taken into the serious considerac[i]on & com[m]isserac[i]on of this Co[u]rt (yo[u]r Petic[i]on[er] haveinge allreddy spent his poore estate in the sayd service, & in deere & moste dolefull & torturinge paynes on his cures, & is disabled anie wise to provide for himselfe) That he maybe p[ro]vided for accordinge to the tenor of divers acts & ordinances of Parliam[en]t to that purpose made. And yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[er] shall pray &c.
