The petition of Jeremiah Mallard of Melksham, Wiltshire, undated

To ye hon[oura]ble the Justices of the Bench
The humble Petic[i]on of Jeremiah Mallard of the p[ar]ish of Melksham Sheweth that yo[u]r peticioner hath been in actuall service in ye late warre as a souldier for the States of this Com[m]onwealth for ye space of Eight yeares last past (as by seu[er]all Certificates may appeare) in w[hi]ch s[ai]d service yo[u]r hon[ou]rs peticioner hath receiued a shott in the legge whereby (& w[i]th lying on ye ground) hee is maimed & disabled to worke for the maintainance of himselfe & family, soe that himselfe & his s[ai]d Family are like (w[i]thout ye tender Compassion of this hon[oura]ble Court) to perish through want.
May itt therefore please this hon[oura]ble Court to Comiserate yo[u]r peticioners sad Condic[i]on, and to afford him reliefe according to p[ro]vision of Parliament in that case made & p[ro]vided as shall seeme meet in yo[u]r hon[ou]rs wisdomes And (as in duty bound) yo[u]r peticioner w[i]th his distressed Family as in duty bound shall pray &c
