The petition of Hugh ap Thomas of Rhiwlas, Denbighshire, 14 January 1668

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace of the sayd County pr[e]sent at this q[ua]rter Session
The humble petic[i]on of Hugh ap Thomas of Rhiwlas in the County of Denbigh aforesayd labourer
Humbley sheweth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps That whereas yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner having served his late Ma[jes]tie Charles the firste in the late vnhappie wars for the space of three yeares & vpwards As by the Certificate annexed appeareth, in w[hi]ch sayd service yo[u]r sayd petic[i]oner hath receaved seu[er]all wounds & bruises vpon seu[er]all p[ar]ts of his body & Allsoe loste his heareinge, by reason of w[hi]ch wounds & bruises yo[u]r sayd poore petic[i]oner (being aged threescore & one & vpwardes) is now very much impaired in his body & Alltogether disenabled to worke for his pr[e]sent subsistance. And hath an aged sickly wife and three children and nothing to keep them or himself.
Therefore yo[u]r sayd poore petic[i]oner humbley prayeth yo[u]r wors[hi]pps to take the pr[e]misses into yo[u]r considerac[i]on & to graunt vnto yo[u]r sayd petic[i]oner such q[ua]rterly penc[i]on out of the maimed souldiers mise as yo[u]r wor[shi]pps shall in Charity shall seeme meete & convenient and yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c.
