The petition of Henry Locke of North Molton, Devon, October 1660

To the Hon[oura]ble Court Holden at the Castle of Exon for the County of Devon

The humble Petition of Henry Locke of the p[ar]ish of North Molton in the County aforesaid

Sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r haueing served his Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of Famous Memory in the vnhappie Civill wars for Dyvers yeares lately past w[i]th all faithfullness & honestie vnder the com[m]aund of Captayne Maior William Heper in the Regiment of Collonell S[i]r Edmond Fortiscue in w[hi]ch service yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r received Dyvers Dangerous wounds One whereof he most vnhappily received in one of his shoulders w[hi]ch Cased hym to lye vnder the Chirurgions hand w[i]thin the Citty of Exon for the space of 22 weekes by all w[hi]ch meanes yo[u]r poore petitio[ne]r is much Disinabled in getting A Livelyhood for the Competent releife of hymselfe

The pr[e]misses considered the Humble request of yo[u]r poore Peition[e]r is that this Hon[oura]ble Court Wil be pleased out of yo[u]r pious Care & Clemency towards the poore, to p[ro]cure for yo[u]r poore petitio[ne]r Such yearely Pention out of the Com[m]on Stocke for Maymed Souldyers as this this Hon[oura]ble Court shall seeme fitt & agreeable to his former sufferings & pr[e]sent Condic[i]on & yo[u]r poore petitio[ne]r as in Duty bound shall ever pray for yo[u]r Welfare here & Etternall happynesse hereafter

Wee whose names are subscribed Inhabytants w[i]thin the p[ar]ish of North Molton doe Humbly Certyfie that yo[u]r petitio[ne]r aboue named was for Dyvers yeares According to his petition in his Late Ma[jes]ties service & therein received Dyvers grevious wounds this to o[u]r Knowlidge is very true Humbly beseeching this Hon[oura]ble Court in this poore petition[e]rs behalfe to Consider the pr[e]mysses
