The petition of Henry Gravenor, Cheshire, 16 January 1655

To the worsh[i]p[fu]ll the Justices of peace for the County of Chester at their Quarter Sessions at Northw[i]ch Jan[uary]: the 16th 1654
The humble petic[i]on of Henry Gravenor a poore infant.
<Sheweth>
That your petic[i]oners Father was a man that faithfully served the Parliam[en]t and interest of this Com[m]onwealth dureing a great part of the late warrs in which service he received very many greivous wounds and was at the takeing of Beeston Castle by the Irish Army slaine
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs Granfather [sic.] who hath for a long tyme beene a penc[i]on[e]r in this County and vpon whose poore endeavo[u]rs all yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs hopes of subsistance & livelyhood did depend is lately dead and your poore petic[i]on[e]r exposed thereby to extreame want being left altogether destitute of maintenance or Freinds to provide for him
Hee therefore humbly prayes yo[u]r hono[u]rs to allowe him some annuall penc[i]on for his necessary releife in this his great extremity what in your wisdomes shall seeme meete.
And hee shall ever pray &c
