The petition of Griffith Davies of Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Denbighshire, c. 1662 to 1667

To the right Wo[rshipfu]ll the Justices of peace att this p[re]sent q[uar]ter Sessions held for the said County
The humble pettic[i]on of Griffith Davies of Llanvaire Dyffrin Cloyd in the said County a maymed souldier
Humbly sheweth vnto yo[u]r lor[shi]pps wor[shi]pps, That yo[u]r poore pet[i]t[ione]r hath beene a souldier vnder the Comand of the right ho[noura]ble S[i]r Thomas Saulsbury, And was att the battle att Edge hill where hee was dangerously wounded and at seu[er]all other battles, And went form[er]ly a presse souldier for the said p[ar]ishe of Llanvaire, And hath eu[er] Continued a firme subiect to his late ma[jes]tie & his Ma[jes]tie, That nowe is w[i]thout revoultinge And by reason of his wounds form[er]ly hadd & his greate Adge is dissabled to gett his liveinge, And hath form[er]ly rec[eive]d a penc[i]on, butt nowe of late Rec[eive]d none, And Further sheweth to yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps, that many w[hi]ch was in the same service receaves penc[i]on, yo[u]r pet[i]t[ione]r haveinge a Certificate heervnto annexed vnder the hands of his p[ar]ishioners to p[ro]ve the full effect of this pettic[i]on, There beinge noe officers liveinge in theise p[ar]ts to Certifie the p[re]mises.
Yo[u]r pet[i]t[ione]rs humble request is to yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps to Comisserat the p[re]mis[e]s, And out of yo[u]r wounted goodness, to allowe yo[u]r poore pet[i]t[ione]r such penc[i]on as your wo[rshi]pps shall thinke fit, by reason of his wounds Adge & pou[er]ty there beinge others w[hi]ch were in the same service receaves pencons And to allowe him what yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps thinke fitt for the tyme hee is not p[ai]d accordinge to yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps form[er] Order, And yo[u]r wor[shi]p pet[i]t[ione]r will eu[er] pray &c
