The petition of Elizabeth Cawsey of Halberton, Devon, 29 September 1654

To the Right wo[rshi]pp[full] Edmond Fowell Esquire & the rest of the Justices att the Bench now assembled.
The humble petition of Elizabeth Cawsey of Halberton in the County of Devon, poore widdowe.
Humbly sheweth
That yo[ur] petic[ion]ers deceased husband was in the tyme of the late warr an officer in the service of the Parly[a]m[en]t in the Regim[en]t of Col[one]l Were and afterwards in the Regim[en]t of Plymouth horse, who (uppon disbanding thereof att the Devises) engaged for the service of the Parly[a]m[en]t for Ireland where it pleased God to take away in [sic.] his life as by a certificate hereunto annexed & the testymony of these whose names are subscribed may appeare: By occasion of w[hi]ch yo[ur] petic[ion]er is in greate want and much necessitie.
The premisses considered yo[ur] petic[ion]er humbly prayes, in regard of her greate losse & absolute p[re]sent necessitie, being att least 70 yeres of Age & haveinge not wherewithal to helpe herselfe to order her some yerely pencion for her livelihood or what other Comfort shall in yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps good Judgm[en]ts & Charity [be] thought fitt. And you[u]r petition[er] as in duty shee is bound shall pray &c.
