<The humble Petic[i]on of Elizabeth Cary alias Welsh Besse.>

To the Kings most Excellent Majesty.

The humble Petic[i]on of Eliz[abeth] Cary.

Humbly sheweth,

That your peticon[e]r is ye Woman whom your Majesty was ordinarily pleased to call Welsh Besse (who amongst others) hath suffered deeply for her allegiance and constant Loyalty to your Majesties most royall father of blessed Memory, and for her fidelity and adherency to her dread soueraigne endured great afflictions, persecutions and Imprisonme[n]ts by the late abominable and tirannicall vsurpers and in particuler her Imprisonment for her service to his Ma[jes]ty even at ye time of his Majesties most glorious Martirdome.

In tender consideration whereof your peticon[e]r most humbly supplicates your most Royall Majesty will gratiously bee pleased to preferre her sonne to ye University being a hopefull young man and a Scholar whereby hee may bee a Comfort to your peticion[e]r now in her old age, if it to yo[u]r Majesty shall seeme meet.

And your Peticon[e]r shall pray &c.
