The petition of Drummer William Dowdall, Thomas Pride’s Regiment, 27 August 1648

<The humble petic[i]on of Will[ia]m Dowdall a Lame Soldier.>
To the right ho[noura]ble the Com[m]ittee of Lords and Com[m]ons for the Army
The humble petic[i]on of William Dowdall a poore lame soldier in the Savoy Hospitall
Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r hath serued the Parliam[en]t honestly in the faithfull p[er]formance of his dutie as foot Soldier and Drum[m]er in the Regim[en]t of Collo[nel] Pride, and before in Coll[onel] Harloes time vnder Captaine (nowe Maior) Gregson, ever since the reducem[en]t of the Army vnder his Excellency the nowe Lord Generall.
But being sore wounded in one of his hands hath vtterly lost the vse thereof & is disabled for any seruice, and through extreame sicknes that did thereby befall him hee was forced to leaue the Army and was sent to the said Hospitall, where he lyeth still vnder Cure.
His humble Suite to this hono[oura]ble Com[m]ittee is, That as hee hath arreares due to him for the foresaid seruice hee neuer as yet receiueing any, That yo[u]r Hono[u]rs would be pleased to Comiserat his Condic[i]on, hee being very poore and as yet vnserviceable for his calling or the Army. And to graunt an Order yt the Muster rolls may be searched, whereby hee may haue a warrant for the receipt of his arreares to support him in his weake and poore Estate.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r (as bound) shall euer pray &c.

<That ye Comissary Gen[era]ll of ye Musters or his Deputy doe forthwith certify this Com[mi]ttee how ye pet[itione]r stands vpon the seu[er]all Musters [illegible] of the Army; And doe affix the same to the petic[i]on>
