The petition of Corporal John Kelvin, Thomas Pride’s Regiment, 9 November 1648

To the Right hon[oura]ble the Com[m]ittee of Lords and Com[m]ons for the Armye
The humble petic[i]on of John Kelvin
Sheweth,
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath faithfully served the p[ar]liam[en]t for seu[er]all yeares in the Regim[en]t some tyme com[m]anded by Colonell Bartlee, afterwards by Colo[ne]l Harlowe and nowe by Colonell Pride as a souldier and Corporall to Captayne John Forgeson in the Armye of his Excell[en]cy Thomas Lord Fairfax as by the Annexed Certificate may appeare
That whereas yo[u]r said pet[itione]r hath receiued a dangerous shott in his back in the foresaid seruice whereby hee is nott only vncapable to indeauor his future liuelyhood butt is also att the present being farr from any Friends in a sorry sadd and misserable condic[i]on for want of a competent subsistance And having much in arreares
The pet[itione]r humbly Imploreth yo[u]r hono[u]rs order for the stating his Accompts according to musters And vpon ye stating thereof to ord[e]r him paym[en]t of his arreares as shal bee therevpon found due towards the better enabling the pet[itione]r to beare his sadd and incurable wound w[i]thout which hee is likely to perish
And the pet[itione]r shall eu[er] pray &c.

<That ye Com[m]issary Generall of ye Musters or his Deputy doe forthwith certify this Com[m]ittee how ye pet[itione]r stands vpon the seu[er]all Musters of ye Army & doe affix the same to this petic[i]on.>
