The petition of Cibell Steiphenson of Fradswell, Staffordshire, 6 October 1657

To ye ho[noura]ble ye Justices of ye peace &c at this pr[e]sent Quarter Sessions.
The humble petit[i]on of Cibell Steiphenson of Frodswell an aged widowe.
<Humbly> sheweth that not long since yo[u]r pet[itione]r settinge fourth in a petit[i]on exhibited to this ho[noura]ble Bench, the many services and Offices of a Souldier, her late husband, Francis Steiphenson (deceased) had vndergone & p[er]formed in the Palatinate, ye Lowe Countries, England & Ireland, together w[i]th ye death of her sonne in ye seruice of this Com[m]onwealth in Scotland for ye consideration of ye pr[e]misses, and the arreares of some ten pounds due to her said husband at his decease, as alsoe that she was depriued of ye comfort of an husband, and a sonne, that should relieue her, in her old age; There was order giuen, yo[u]r pet[itione]rs name should be enter’d into ye Threasurers booke of this Countie, and that there should be paid vnto her yearely, fortie shillings by 10 s. ye q[ua]rter vntil ye said arreares were fully satisfied, (if she soe long liued) and accordingly she hath beene paid 30 s. for 3 q[ua]rteres, but calleinge for ye last q[ua]rters paym[en]t she was (vpon what pr[e]tence she knows not) deny’d it.
Yo[u]r pet[itione]r humbly prayes, that (in tender comiserat[i]on of her age & ye sadnes of her pr[e]sent condition) This ho[noura]ble Bench, wil be fauorablie pleased, to order ye payment of ye said last q[ua]rter, and that ye said former Order may be continued, as aforesaid.
And yo[u]r poor Sup[p]li[can]t shall euer pray &c.
Wee appoynt the Treasurers to pay to the Petic[i]oner the somme of Tenn shillings euery quarter till the abouementioned some of Tenn pounds be payd her for her husbands arreares.
