The petition of Alice Webster of Knutsford, Cheshire, 22 January 1651

To the ho[noura]ble the Justics of peace at Sessions of peace houlden at Knuttesford for the County Pallatine of Chester 22o Jan[uary] 1650

Sheweth

That her late husband Richard Webster [illegible] in pursuance of his continued faithfulnes & zeale to the Parl[iamen]ts cause dureing the time of the late kinge; voluntarily inlisted himselfe vnd[e]r Capt[ain] Hugh Birtles in Colonell Will[ia]m Daniells regiment in the expedic[i]on  against Scotland where in service hee was in the late greate victory obtayned there slayne leaveing the pet[itione]r w[i]th 3 small children miserably poore & harborles & like to bee cast vpon the charity of the people vnles yo[u]r hono[u]rs bee pleased (w[hi]ch shee humbly prayeth) to Com[m]iserate her lamentable Condic[i]on [illegible] & afford her releife according to the yo[u]r goodnes accustomed & the Intenc[i]on & pleasure of Parliam[en]t declared for releife of distressed widdowes & Orphans, And shee will pray &c

<Ordered that the Churchwardens & ou[er]seers of the poore of Rostherne take care & p[ro]uide for the petic[i]oner vntill further order.>
