The first petition of Edward Bradley of Horbury, West Riding of Yorkshire, April 1675

To the Right Wor[shi]pfull the Justices of the Peace for the West Ridinge of Yorkeshire.

The humble Petic[i]on of Edward Bradley of Horbury gentl[eman].

Humbly sheweth

That yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps about fower or five yeares since Ordered yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r a penc[i]on of forty shillings p[er] ann[um] to be allowed him (with a p[ro]mise of an augmentac[i]on) for his great sufferings in the late troublesome tymes by sundrye hard Imprissonments and losses by fyer haueinge fower Considerable houses burnt downe att the Cittye of Yorke, and for his service in serveinge his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed memorie as Captaine in the Regiament of S[i]r Tymothy Fetherstonhaugh of foote as by a former petic[i]on and sev[e]rall Certificates may appear, And Attested by the right Wor[shi]pfull S[i]r Thomas Wentworth Kn[igh]t and Barron[e]t S[i]r Thomas Beaumont and others of quallitie w[hi]ch said penc[i]on for some yeares past hath beene taken of to Twenty five shillings and eight pence p[er] ann[um]

Now yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]rs humble request is That yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps would be pleased to take his low & weake Condic[i]on into Considerac[i]on (many pencon[e]rs being lately dead) hee beinge aged and since his Souldieringe falne into many infirmites and distempers of body by reason of his hurts and sundry hard and sadd imprisonments in his former service not beinge able to trauell for a liuely hood as formerly That his penc[i]on may be amended as in yo[u]r grave wisdomes shal be thought meete.

And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r shal be ever bound to pray for yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps &c
