The certificate for William Yates of Knutsford, Cheshire, 4 August 1663

These are to Certifie whom itt may Concerne that the Bearer hereof William Yates serued as A pryvate soldier in S[i]r Edward Fittons Regeament of Foot vnder the Command of Lievtenant Collonell Vrynn Legh in the siruice of his late Ma[jes]t[y] of euer blessed memory And was taken prisoner att Brampton in the Bush being very much wounded whereby hee hath lost the vse of his left hand And was Carried prissoner to London where hee lay Imprisoned fowerteene Monethes And was afterward sold by the then Parliament to Normandy in France where hee serued vnder the King of France his Com[m]and maney years in his Regiament of Gard Cossors or Scoches and that hee neuer serued against his late Ma[jes]t[y] or his Ma[jes]t[y] that now is but hath allwayes behaued himselfe as a faythfull and loyall soldier and subiect wherefore hee is Capable to receiue a stipend or pention as are prouided by an act of Parliament for maymed souldiers.
