The certificate for Nicholas Deacon of Westbury, Wiltshire, 5 January 1661

To the Right Worshipp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ti[e]s Justises of the Peace for the County of Wilts[hire] siting at New Sarum
Wee the Inh[ab]itants of & neere the p[ar]ish of Westbury in the County Aforesaid whose names are heare vnto subscribed doe Certifie that Nicholas Deacon of Westbury aforesayd Tyler was for a long tym A soldier for the late King Charles the first of Glorious memory and did serue his sayd ma[jes]tie very faithfully & neuer was on the other side in w[hi]ch seruise hee Receaued many wo[u]nds & hurts on his Body & Especially on his Arme by Reason whereof hee is much disabled to worke at his trade to get his maynetenance & was Also plundred & Robed of his goods by the other p[ar]ty so that he & his wife & familie are thareby like to Come to great want & nessesity all w[hi]ch wee leaue to y[ou]r Worshipps graue Construc[i]ons A [sic.] Rest y[ou]r humble seruants
