The certificate for Lawrence Key of Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire, Epiphany 1683
To the Right Hono[ura]ble Christopher Lord Hatton Treasurer for the County of North[amp]ton[shire]
Wee whose names are herevnder written doe Humbly Certifie vnto your Lordshipp that there is in our Towne of Irthlingborow one Lawrence Key A poore Maimed Souldier whoe had formerly A penc[i]on of 40 s. p[er] Ann[um] for seu[er]all yeares for the services hee did for our late Ma[jes]tie in the Late warrs w[hi]ch penc[i]on hath not bin paid him for seu[er]all yeares Last past by Reason of his not Comeing to Church.
These are thereffore further to Certifie your Lordshipp that the said Lawrence Key now is and hath bin for the space of twoe or three yeares Last past A good Churchman And doth Come Constantly to heare devine service And that hee is very poore and Lame by Reason of the wounds that hee sustained in the Late warrs w[hi]ch doth make him vncapable of getting his livelyhood Therefore wee humblye pray your Lordshipp that you would bee pleased to order your Deputy Treasurer to pay him his penc[i]on and arreares and hee will evere bee bound to pray for your Lordshipp &c
