The certificate for John Pester of Sidbury, Devon, 27 September 1649

Theise are to Certifie All whom it may Concerne that John Pester was a priuate souldier in the Garrison of Lime Reges in actuall service for the p[ar]liam[en]tt and kingedome in the Footte Company of Maior Peter Ceeley for the space of two whole yeares or more and behaued himselfe Faithfully and valyentely against the Common enemy in w[hi]ch service hee receiued a shott threw his Leiges And had his muskett splette in service and spoyled his hand that two of his Fingers are Lamsed and the pouder and splinters of the stocke of his muskett strocke in his Face and eyes: that one of his eies Rotted in his heade: And the other eie is theireby decayed allsoe that his sight is theirein allmost Lost Whereby the said John Pester is Fallen into very Greate destresse and deserves such Fauor as is due vnto maymed souldiers p[ro]vided by order of p[ar]liam[en]tt for such as should vallently serue them as hee hath done: All w[hi]ch wee Certifie vppon o[u]r owne Knowledge whoe were Officers in the same Company w[i]th him: And Inhabitantes and souldiers in the same Garrison.
