The certificate for John Lewis of Gwersyllt, Denbighshire, 11 June 1647

Wrexham ye 11th of June 1647.

Forasmuch as John Lewis of Gwesillt in the County of Denbigh hath beene in the Service of the Kinge and Parliam[en]t for the Space of foure yeares last past as a private souldier in the Company of Major John Sadler In w[hi]ch Service he hath behaved himselfe very faithfullie, suffered longe Imprisenem[en]t and receiued soe many wounds in the said service as haue disenabled him for acquireinge his Subsistence These are therefore to desire All whome It may Concerne to p[er]mitt & suffer the said John Lewis quietlie to Inhabite in the said County demeaneinge himselfe Civillie and honestlie And this Com[m]ittee doe earnestlie recom[m]end the Considerac[i]on of his condic[i]on to the gentlemen and Justices of the Peace of the said County That such Prevision of future Mainetaineance may bee made for him as by the Lawe and an ordinance of this pr[e]sent Parliam[en]t is provided for Maimed souldiers.

Ordered That the said John Lewis be admitted to be one of the maymed soldiers as being in the s[er]vice of the p[ar]liam[en]t the space of 4 yeares & therein att the leaguer before holt castle lost the vse of one of his hands. And that the penc[i]on of three pounds p[er] ann[um] be allowed & quarterly payd him out of the maymed souldiers mise by the treasureis for the time being and the same to continue vntill further order.
