The certificate for Alexander Babbage of Alton Barnes, Wiltshire, 12 April 1676

We whose names are here subscribed Inhabitants of Alton Barnes in the s[ai]d County and others therevnto adiacent Doe Certify all whom it may concerne That the Bearer hereof Alexander Babbage of Alton aforesayd hath beene a Souldyer in his late Ma[jes]ties service of ever blessed memory & hath never deserted the same by taking vp of armes And now being impou[e]rished by reason of his wife and great Charge of Children being in number whereof Five of them are very Small. And therefore we recom[m]end him as a Loyall subject fitt to receive the Benefitt of his Ma[jes]ties acte made for the indigent and Loyall Souldyers. Witness o[u]r subscriptio[ns] the Twelfth day of Aprill An[n]o Dom[in]i 1676.
