The second petition of William Ellicott of Tavistock, Devon, 1683

To the Right Worsh[i]p[fu]ll his Maiesties Justices of the Peace for this County of Deuon the Humble Petition of William Ellicott of Tauistocke
<Humbly Sheweth>
That whareas yo[u]r poore Petitio[ne]r hath allwaise serued his late Maiestie of Euer Blessed Memory and Euer faithfull in his Attemts from the Beginning to the End of our Late vnhappy Warrs Amongst our selues and often Dangerusly Wounded and hath vndergon greate hardship by Reason of his wounds and now Aged losting one of his Eyes, lying on the Could Ground in the seruice and now is decrepitt in his Lymbs, who neuer derogated from his seruice day or Night, and was still vnder the Command of Maiorr Jacob from the Beginning of the warrs to the End therof and Maior Jacob would haue Indeuored for A Pention for your poore Petitio[ne]r, but your Petitio[ne]r then hauing not occasion did neglect it but now being Aged and Paines in his Lymbs and trouble by Reason of his ould wounds is now Inforced to Implore your Worsh[i]ps aide for subsistance the Honorab[e]ll S[i]r James Buttler hath bine Informd of it at his Last being in the Cuntrey who was Pleased to Accept and grant what in him Lyeth, now Beseaching yo[u]r Hono[ur]s Consideration and helpe Toward yo[u]r poore Petitioner
who shall Euer Pray For yo[u]r Honours long life and happiniss heere and Eternall happiniss in that to Come
we beleeue this petition to be true
